Asian Superstar, Se7en, and Verizon Wireless Team Up for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Charity Program

LOS ANGELES, CA – For Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Verizon Wireless and Asian superstar, Se7en, have joined forces to bring the Asian Pacific American communities together for a wonderful cause. This charity program will encompass performances and autograph signings by Se7en in means of promoting the HopeLine phone drive. Verizon Wireless is thrilled to have Se7en partnering up with us in making this celebration a reality.”

Old phones may be donated at both of the aforementioned events. The collected phones will be donated to Verizon Wireless’ charity program, HopeLine. Verizon Wireless is a recognized corporate leader in the area of giving back to the community. HopeLine, currently in its 13th year, collects old, no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories from any wireless service provider. Phones that can be salvaged are sold for reuse, and those without value are discarded in an eco-friendly way. Proceeds from the HopeLine program are used to provide wireless phones and cash grants to local shelters and nonprofit organizations that advocate domestic violence prevention and awareness, such as The Center for Pacific-Asian Families. By 2007, HopeLine had collected more than 4.5 million wireless phones and donated nearly $5 million in cash grants.

Korean popstar, Se7en English speaking skills has been acknowledged by Koreans living in America after viewing his press conference video online.

 

Se7en held a press conference before his album preview party at Hollywood Club, Highlands where he performed three songs from his upcoming debut English album. He showed his good mastery of the English language during the press conference when posed questions from the media.

The press conference video sees Se7en answering questions like about his new album in America, how his name was derived from, etc was uploaded onto various video sharing websites and generating interest.

He was very pleasant and polite, and was like a youth introducing Korea to the Americans.” Some also said, “Compared to me who has been living in America for the past 10 years, he speaks the language far better.”

The event was shown on MNet Channel recently and the press conference clip was uploaded onto UCC sites. From 5 – 12 May, it has been viewed over 1000 times and with generally positive remarks.

Se7en has been undergoing 1-on-1 English lessons since six months ago and is now preparing to enter the US market with his CD single, “Girls”.

Not only mass communication officials in the US were surprised at Se7en’s English, which he used to communicate with the reporters in a press conference hours before his preview party in Los Angeles, but also YG Entertainment’s Yang Hyun Suk.“I was also surprised at Se7en’s English. According to Se7en, the language was the hardest part in his US debut preparations. But based on his English skills during the press conference, he has considerably become better in the language.

“Se7en seems to have an excellent ability in learning a language. He learned Japanese in less than a year but he speaks it well. He seems to have an inborn talent in language but he also works hard on learning it.”

Last May 3 and 4, Se7en and Yang Hyun Suk were busy attending to offers. Also, right now, according to an official, Se7en’s camp is continuously meeting with a record company, which is almost at the point of making its decision. Se7en’s American album, which includes 12 tracks, is to be released in June-July under the determined record company.

 

Se7en To Also Act In The US

According to Red Queen Media’s Director of Public Relations, Jonas Hudson, aside from debuting in the US as a singer, Se7en is also going to be busy this year on his acting career.“It’s not been fixed yet but Se7en is planned to participate in acting casting calls of US cable TV this coming July-August.”

Se7en Opposed To US Beef Products In Korea

Se7en, who is in the midst of preparing for his showcase in the US, expressed his opposition to the government’s decision to fully open Korea’s market to US beef products. What really happened to Kyu!

Kyu had a heatstroke.
The studio’s aircon was spoilt, making the studio feel like a sauna room.
and also, it was filled with 300+ ppl when it was meant to fit ard 100 ppl.
He left the stage and came back on a couple of times as he’s unwell.
He did not vomit on stage, chances are that he vomited while he left the stage to rest.
At a certain segment, he was suddenly leaning onto Siwon for support and was immediately helped to get off the stage by the studio staffs.
They went back to their hotel at around 1 am and Kyu’s in the midst of recovery.

Will.i.am was a speaker for one of today’s sessions entitled “Entertainment, At the Forefront of Imagination.”According to Will.i.am, if Black Eyed Peas is getting popular in Brazil, he does not see it impossible for Se7en and Rain or any of the Korean singers debuting in the US to be popular in the said country.

“But Korean singers are still not known in the US. If up-and-coming Korean singers collaborate with famous producers in the US, there’s a high possibility for them to succeed,” added Will.i.am.

Before the start of the preview party at Highlands in Los Angeles, Se7en first held a press conference at around 8:30 pm. The interview was done in English and Se7en did not get the help of an interpreter for the reporters’ questions.

In the said press conference, after sharing the process of getting in YG Entertainment as a trainee when he was still in junior high school and debuting in 2003, Se7en expressed the pressure he is facing now.

He said, “It’s rare for an Asian singer to debut in the US and the load is heavy on my shoulder. The nervousness is actually bigger than the burden. I’m feeling like 5 years ago before my debut.”

He continued, “There’s prejudice on Asian singers but my music will change that. Famous producers worked on my album, which includes R&B, pop, hip hop music that will be able to remove the prejudice on an Asian singer. If it’s played on radio, it will feel as if it’s sung by a current singer because it was made to current trends of music.”

Se7en’s album put together the work of famous producers like Mark Shimmel, Rich Harrison, Noize Trip and Darkchild.

With regard to the production of the album, Se7en said, “It went well and was fun. I learned a lot on music and being a person. I feel that I’ve grown as time went by. How much the album sells and how high it’s going to rise in the Billboard chart are not important. It’s my goal that a lot of people get to listen to my music.”

When asked what was the hardest thing about his debut, Se7en said it was the language.

“I had to study pronunciations and the meaning of the lyrics. I studied English for 4-5 months, 3-4 hours a day. It’ll be great if my English is perfect. But as a singer, the music should be the one to do the talking. If my thoughts can be transmitted through music, then my English will follow through. This year, next year, I’ll continue to show my growth,” Se7en said, who has considerably good English, having stayed in the US for 6 months.

Se7en was also asked which American female singer he would like to work with since he has already worked with male singers. Se7en answered that he would like to work with Beyonce and Alicia Keys because he likes their music.

The press conference was organized by Red Queen Media (RQM) and was attended by its President, Jang Young Woo, and its Director of Public Relations, Jonas Hudson.

Jonas Hudson praised Se7en and said that he is equipped with the good traits to debut in the US and that Se7en is an Asian star that is going to be born again as a world star.

“Top team of producers worked on his album and TV and a music video will be utilized for his promotions,” Jonas Hudson said.

Se7en’s performance at Highlands was to test the reaction of music fans before the actual release of the album, which includes 12 tracks and is planned to be released this Summer.

“It’s a very special day for me because this is my debut stage in the US,” he said.

Attendees of the event were producer “Darkchild,” officials from record labels Interscope and Sony BMG and YG Entertainment’s Yang Hyun Suk and Jinu of hip hop duo Jinusean.

2,500 people, composed of fans and clubbers were present, were first to see The Far East Movement, who opened the show. Three 6 Mafia then performed. Then Se7en, wearing a leather jacket, went up on stage, which made the females in the club scream. At this time, cameras and cellphones were also held up high in order to take videos and pictures of Se7en.

Se7en performed “You Got Me Now,” which features Three 6 Mafia, “Money Can’t Buy Me Love,” composed by 1TYM’s Teddy and “Girls,” which was produced by Darkchild.

Taiwan Economy Shapes Positive Global Image

Taiwan’s economic achievements, especially its technological development, may have helped shape positive global impressions of the country, the Gallup Organization said in a report posted on Tuesday on its Web site.

The study was conducted by Gallup for the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York based on a survey carried out in May and June in the US, Japan, the UK, France and Germany. The targets included 1,500 members of the general public and 200 opinion leaders in each country.

Although only 15 percent to 44 percent of the general public in these countries know “some” or “a great deal” about Taiwan, most of them have “very favorable” or “favorable” impressions of Taiwan, the survey shows. In particular, the impressions of Taiwan are “favorable” among 76 percent of the respondents in Japan, 73 percent in the US and 68 percent in the UK.

The survey also discovered that the favorability ratings of Taiwan are generally higher than those of China and South Korea, but lower than those of Japan.

The survey indicates opinion leaders were more likely than the general public to know something about Taiwan and view it favorably, with more than 90 percent of those surveyed in Japan and the US having a very favorable or favorable impression of Taiwan.

While most of the respondents have obtained information about Taiwan from media sources such as television, newspapers and magazines, 68 percent in the UK, 58 percent in France and 54 percent in the US have learned about Taiwan through its products.

The study says it does not seem likely that the contrast between democratic Taiwan and communist China has boosted positivity toward Taiwan, in light of the fact that only 29 percent of the general public in the US, 27 percent in the UK, 23 percent in France and 33 percent in Germany are aware that Taiwan has a democratic political system.

However, many members of the general public agree that Taiwan is “technologically developed” and “has good food, interesting attractions and beautiful scenery.”

By comparison, higher percentages of opinion leaders are aware of Taiwan’s democratic status and describe the nation as a technologically developed and economically strong country and a good place for business investment, according to the survey.

Taiwan’s success as a manufacturer of computer equipment–third only behind the United States and Japan–is now being replicated in the semiconductor area. More and more Japanese and US companies are having their semiconductors made in Taiwan. At the core of Taiwan’s success is a unique strategic partnership between Taiwan and Silicon Valley. “One day the Taiwan semiconductor industry will be like our notebook PC industry,” says Powerchip Chairman and President Frank Huang. “Taiwan companies will make everything and US companies will sell it.”

Speaking at the twenty-second joint conference of the ROC-USA and USA-ROC Business Councils held in Taipei last November, Dick Mou, secretary-general of the Taipei-based council, said that as far as links between the United States and Taiwan are concerned, “the model for emulation is the strategic alliances developed between chipmakers in America and Taiwan. With the strength of its established American links to support it, the Taiwan chipmaking industry is in far better shape than its counterparts in South Korea and Japan. Industry giants like Intel and Microsoft have helped make Taiwan a world leader in the computer industry.”

Se7en, who is scheduled to release his debut album in the US, is going to perform in his Verizon-sponsored preview party in Los Angeles, which is unlike the preview party he had in New York last March where he just introduced his songs.Se7en is holding the preview party in the famous club “Highlands” on May 2. In the said event, he is planned to perform the R&B song “Money Can’t Buy Me Love,” which was composed by 1TYM’s Teddy, “You Got Me,” featuring Three 6 Mafia and “Girls,” which was produced by Darkchild, who will also be there in the event. Far East Movement and Three 6 Mafia will also have special performances before Se7en goes up on stage.

Meanwhile, 1TYM member Teddy and YG Entertainment’s big boss Yang Hyun Suk are leaving Korea on May 1 to attend the party.”

Se7en將在美舉行 Show Case

重量級音樂人參加

 即將在美國發片的韓國歌手SE7EN，將在洛杉磯舉行大規模Show case。
據悉，此次Show case將於5月2日在美國洛杉磯一家俱樂部舉行，是preview party性質的活動，屆時將邀請眾多美國樂壇重量級人物出席。在這場Show case上SE7EN將演唱新專輯收錄的美國著名音樂人Darkchild製作的《MONEY CAN’T BUY ME LOVE》，Three 6 Mafia參與制作的《YOU GOT ME NOW》等三首歌曲。將將有Interscope唱片公司相關負責人、電影導演John Singleton、女歌手Amerie Mi Marie Rogers等人出席Show case。
